| I have never had a massage before. What can I expect? At the first session, I will ask a few questions regarding your general health and lifestyle, then make some suggestions. We will discuss how you would like the session to go. Some people prefer a full body massage, while others prefer work to specific areas (i.e. back, neck, shoulders, etc.). During the massage, you are encouraged to give feedback allowing me to adjust the style and pressure to your liking. How often do I need to get a massage? Some people find that weekly massage helps them maintain a relaxed and more energetic state, or discover that pain management is optimal with regular visits, or that a specific condition can be improved with a series of visits focusing on specific work. Others get massage after periods of high stress as a means of relaxing, centering themselves or as a general pick-me-up and might get just a few per year. Massage is a great way to support your body's health, treat yourself well, or pamper yourself. In short, as often as you feel you need to. I've heard that therapeutic massage is painful... Our goal is to relieve pain and improve your quality of life. Some areas of acute pain may be uncomfortable to have massaged, but most people agree the few moments of discomfort are worth the benefit of the resulting reduction of pain. We are not there to pummel you into submission-- we want you to feel good! Do I have to take off all of my clothes to get a massage? This is at your discretion: you may take off whatever you are comfortable with. Some people take off everything, some might only take off their shoes. During the massage, you are completely draped in a sheet and towel. Only the part being massaged at that moment is uncovered. |
